Chrono Trigger

Another masterpiece by the greatest gaming company ever!!

Chrono Trigger is another masterpiece by the greatest game company ever, SquareSoft. This game lived up to all of its expectations with an excellent storyline, great character development, superb graphics and music, great gameplay, and an excellent battle system

GRAPHICS (10/10): the graphics are superb and represent the finest the Super NES will ever see. Fantastic character designs, detailed dungeons, cities, etc., awesome cut scenes, and fantastic scenes including Magus' Tower are absolutely spectacular. One minor downfall: sometimes the backgrounds are so well designed and have such spectacular, colorful backgrounds that is is sometimes hard to judge the depth of the ground you are working on, therefore you sometimes miss what you are supposed to walk on. However, this is a VERY minor complaint. Unfortunatley, graphics don' matter much at all.

MUSIC/SOUND (8/10): The music (excluding the regular battle music) is phenomenal. The music fits each scene very nicely, and overall almost all of the music is fantastic. However, the regular battle music is HORRIBLE! Anyway, the sound effects are perfect, the sword hitting an enemy sounds just like a sword hitting an enemie. The music is superb, other than the crappy battle music.

CONTROL (10/10): The control, just like in most other RPgs is menu based and fantastic. The battle screen commands are more of the same (Attack, Def. Run, etc.) but a cool new command is Tech, which I'll cover in Gameplay. To run during battle you must hold downb the L and R buttons at the same time. A cool pasrt of this game is that you can run during walking mode by holding down the B Button. great overall control.

GAMEPLAY (10/10): Chrono Trigger really shines in this department. There is a lot of events to do, such as rescuing princess Nadia, escaping form a prison, and going through various dungeons. Each event is very well planned out and you actually have to think about where to go next. That's a cool part of the game: you go back to various time periods, and you end up going to the same time period a few times during the game. the battle screen commands are basically the same as a normal RPG except for one addition: Techs. You can learn Single, Double, and Triple techs. Single techs can only be done by the person who knows the tech, but double and triple techs are performed by two or three characters who combine their knowledge of ther tech to trample over an enemy. This is a really great idea for a struggling RPG originality element.

CHALLENGE (10/10): Unfortuantely, Chrono Trigger is not as long or as difficult as Final fantasy 3. This is not a 60-70 hour game as Squaresoft claims. It should take RPG newbies 35 hours to beat this game while veteran RPg players should beat it within 20-30 hours. Once you know what to do, it's easy to do. However, Chrono Tigger is still pretty tough. It's just not as long or as challenging as Final Fantasy 3.

FUN FACTOR (10/10): Chrono Trigger is extremely fun and will keep you hooked for hours. this is an ouststanding choice for all RPG players, but even non-RPG players may find themselves hooked on SquareSoft's masterpiece. Give us a sequel, Square!
